As a third-year student, specialty “Economics of Defense and Security” at the Department “National and Regional Security” in the UNWE in the summer of 2014 student Petya Kapchina (currently fourth year, the same specialty) had one-month internship in the Administration of the President to the Secretary of Defense and Security.

Administration of the President annually provides opportunities for internships for students and graduates from various disciplines. The internship takes place in the various units of the Presidency, depending on the expressed interest of the trainee. Purpose of the internship program is to get acquainted with the work of the administration activities and functions of individual structural units, and the ability to apply knowledge and skills acquired during the training into practice in a real working environment.
We quote impressions Petya Kapchina student in fourth year “Economics of Defense and Security” at the Department “National and Regional Security” in the UNWE, for her impressions about the program:
„My interest in the program was created by the status of this institution, which for me is symbolic uniting, bringing the spirit of Bulgarian. The ability to be part of this atmosphere made me to send my application – CV and letter of motivation.
There was an interview with a representative of the unit, which I identified as a priority for me. It was conducted by Admiral George Fidanov – military security adviser to the President, who subsequently became my mentor.
During the first days of the training I was fascinated by the environment in this iconic building. Long corridors, covered with thick, red carpets, heavy chandelier and soft silence. Subsequently grabbed me the enthusiasm and dedication of the people working there. I attended daily team meetings, in which current changes the security environment were discussed and possible position of the Presidency towards them. During my traineeship I read the fundamental regulatory documents in the field of defense and security, which later were in great favor during the next semester. Several times a week I had the opportunity to discuss what I had learned with my mentor, author of some of the documents. This was perhaps most valuable for me – to communicate with a person of such a high rank and a renowned specialist in his field. During the internship I even had the opportunity to participate in the Day of dignitaries of “Training of European military transport aviation 2014” held at the airport in Plovdiv.
With deep gratitude to Admiral Fidanov and his team for what I have learned and seen in my practice, I think that the internship in Administration the President is suitable for any student who wants to go beyond the formal educationр to enrich his experience and views and to develop himself.”
