The head of the Department of National and Regional Security was elected Rector of UNWE

On December 18, 2019, during the reporting and election General Assembly of UNWE, Prof. Dr. Dimitar Dimitrov, Head of the Department of National and Regional Security was elected Rector of UNWE for the term 2019-2023.

Prof. Dimitrov is fighting for the rector’s post with three other worthy candidates, namely Prof. Dr. Valentin Goev, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zhivko Draganov, Prof. Dr. Simeon Zhelev. After a run-off, Prof. Dimitrov was elected by 160 votes of the General Assembly.

During the General Assembly, Prof. Dimitrov presented his concept and introduced the delegates to his professional path and life history related to the university. During his presentation, he stressed the following: “I hope with joint efforts to maintain and improve the leading position of our university and to meet the current challenges facing UNWE and higher education in general. Income policy, research development and business relations are just some of the areas where sensible change is needed. “

As early as October (2019), Prof. Dimitrov announced in an official letter to all departments his decision to run for rector, seeking each of them for opinion, recommendations and discussion. He met with dozens of faculty and staff to come up with a concept that reflected the real situation at the university and led to “reasonable change.”
